Worcester – While the Worcester Wildcats are busy gearing up for the upcoming pre-season clash with the Leominster Razorbacks, veteran Linebacker Sean Miller has been hitting the gym training for his first ever Strongman competition. While this is his first Strongman competition, he is not new to the world of competitive weight lifting. Miller won the Drug Free World Power lifting Championships in 2006 competing in the 242lb weight class. “I had actually planned on competing several times in past events but never felt ready, and finally now is the time,” Said Miller in an interview this week. “The guys at Paxton Strongman have really helped me prepare for this competition, as well as Baystate Gym and World Gym.”
Miller will be competing in the Men’s open 201-230lb division, and has maintained his strength despite dropping over 15 pounds in preparation for the competition. With the extra work being put in to prepare for the May 23rd Strongman; Miller says that he is also preparing for the upcoming season, “The actual training for a strongman isn't that different from training for a power lifting competition or football season, the hardest part is learning form for events like the Atlas Stones and the Axle Clean & Press.”
With just over 5 weeks to go until the Wildcats kick off their 2010 season with a pre-season game in Worcester against Leominster, the team is really coming together and excitement is building. With a talented roster of new and returning players and a dedicated, organized, and focused coaching staff, this year is shaping up to be the most exciting yet. Be sure to check us out at Foley Stadium as the Wildcats play their 7th season in Worcester as members of the New England Football League.
